What To Expect

Ending Female Veteran Homelessness. A singular approach that focuses efforts and resources on prevention and early intervention versus the current model of reacting to homelessness once it actually occurs. We leverage strong peer-to-peer networks; which are inclusive of veterans helping veterans; as well as social and community networks.
We engage in activities related to resolving homelessness in our female veteran population and do so with total transparency, allowing the data to be disseminated to the public with the intent of tapping into the vast networks of problem solvers within communities and throughout the country.
Our goal is to assist each female veteran to transition from homelessness into the workforce and ultimately become a proud independent contributor to society.

Drug Use in the Military: The Many Aspects of the Problem

Drug addiction is a condition that anyone can have, whether to drugs or alcohol. However, substance abuse disorders are quite significant for military veterans. Members frequently turn to heavy alcohol consumption as a means of recreation and stress relief. Members on active duty are sometimes offered alcohol at discounts. Military alcohol policy is relatively lax.

Some studies have demonstrated that being deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan, and exposed to combat there, can induce new-onset heavy drinking, higher consumption of alcoholic drinks, and binge drinking.

Substance abuse is not restricted to alcohol either, with the abuse of prescription and illicit drugs increasing quicker among the military demographic than the average population. It is likely to arise due to the frequent prescribing of pain medications for combat injuries. A study showed that was uncommon before recruitment.
