ABOUT US

Who We Are

Independence for Women Veterans of America (IWVA) is a relatively new organization in practice, yet well thought out in theory. IWVA.org is currently registered as an Incorporation within the state of Georgia.

"When the Tour is over and the Veteran returns home"

We are here to help fill the gap between homelessness & main stream America by making necessary moves to get homeless women veterans back in the workforce & becoming independent.

Our Vision

We are dedicated to the well-being of female veterans who have honorably served our country and are now in need. We work closely with businesses & community leaders to supply products to take care of the basic needs and to build the self-esteem of female veterans. Our goal is to assist each female veteran to transition in to the workforce and ultimately become a proud independent contributor to society.

When Life Happens

According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, homelessness results when individuals cannot resolve life's basic issues without assistance. Generally, these problems can be grouped into three categories: health issues, economic hardships, and lack of affordable housing. These issues impact all homeless individuals. It is estimated that the female veteran populations will grow to 2.1 million by 2036.

Experience Matters

Veterans face additional challenges when trying to overcome these obstacles-prolonged separation from traditional supports such as family and close friend, highly stressful training and occupational demands that can affect their personality, self esteem, and ability to communicate in the civilian sector after separation from military occupational specialties into civilian work force is often problematic.

EXPERIENCE

Behavior therapy

In behavior therapy, the main focus is on learning's role in developing both normal and abnormal behaviors.

Psychoanalysis

In psychoanalysis, we focus on changing problematic behaviors by understanding the unconscious meanings and motivations behind them.

Cognitive therapy

In cognitive therapy, the focus is on what people think rather than what they do.

Humanistic therapy

In humanistic therapy, the main focus is on a person's capacity to make rational choices and develop.

Therapy has really helped me overcome some past trauma I had been keeping under a lid for a long time. Now, I feel happier and more confident in my life, and feel like I can walk with my head held high.

Coming from a competitive sports background, the injury that ended up making me give up my career was a hard blow. With therapy, I was able to start building my identity around other things than just sport.
